United States of America (USA) based House of representatives aspirant in Abak federal constituency of Akwa Ibom State in 2011 elections, Mr. Emmanuel Ekon has promised to take the area to another level of unprecedented development.
Ekon, who is a businessman in the US explained to Daily Champion online in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital that poverty, under development of the area through lack of infrastructure and non availability of viable means of livelihood are some of the reasons for joining the race.
He pledged to run an open door administration for the benefit of the people noting that, the entire Abak federal constituency has endorsed him for the office.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ekon is contesting along side with former lawmakers from the area; Hon. Ezekiel Anaka and Ekperikpe Ekpo who may recontest the seat.
"The action was a follow -up to the over three months of my consultation with stakeholders, groups and individuals in Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika Local Government Areas.
My entry into the race is touched by the high level of poverty and neglect which the area is facing, and my intention is to offer service that would change the economic circumstances of the people", Mr. Ekon stated.
He said the three local government areas was endowed with enough human and material resources which, if properly harnessed, would help to create wealth and empower the youths to be less dependent on government for their means of livelihood.
He said through private initiative he has assisted some youths of his community to set up small scale businesses as well as assured to take advantage of connection built over the years in the United States, Europe and Nigeria to attract investment to the Constituency.
He also promised to encourage the youths to participate in a private sector driven programme, in line with Chief Godswill Akpabio development initiative adding that, he had already identified areas of interest that would encourage investors from abroad to show interest in the resources of the area.
"I intend to introduce our youths to opportunities that abound outside the confines of government.
"My links to the business class in America and Europe has exposed me to fact that given an enabling environment and opportunity, we can bring in a lot of investments that would be private sector driven to create wealth and empower the youths.
"This is going to be a complete departure from the current trend and standard practice whereby everybody looks up to government to provide jobs and other essential services. Ours would be asking government to give us the enabling environment for us to bring in investors that would ginger the economy".
